The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main exam is conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) for admission in B.E, B.Tech, and B.Arch, courses. The candidates can get admission to the top institutes across the country. It is also the qualifying exam for the JEE (Advanced) exam, which is taken for admission to the prestigious IITs. The JEE Main 2024 exam consists of papers – Paper 1 is for admission to B.Tech/B.E courses, and Paper 2. The second paper of the JEE Main 2024 further has two parts – 2A is for B.Arch courses.

Understanding the exam pattern of this exam is significant, which is why we have given a detailed account of the JEE 2024 Main exam pattern.

JEE Main Exam Pattern for B.Tech/B.E. (Paper 1)

The duration of JEE Main exam Paper 1 is 3 hours (4 hours for the PwD candidates). This paper is held online. There are two sections for each subject – MCQs (Section A) and numerical (Section B). In Section A, 20 questions are asked from each of the subjects, and all are compulsory. In Section B, 10 questions are asked from each. Candidates can select and answer any 5 questions as per their choice.

Here is the table for a better understanding of the Pattern

JEE Main Exam Pattern: Marking Scheme for BE/B.Tech

Let’s understand the marking scheme for all the papers of the JEE Main.

Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech)

  • The total marks for JEE Main exam Paper 1 are 300.
  • For every correct response, 4 marks are rewarded. For every wrong response, 1 mark is deducted. No marks are deducted for unattempted questions.
  • In the Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry section, a maximum of 100 marks are rewarded for all 25 questions. There are a total of 75 questions to be attempted, which equals 75*4 – 300 marks.
