JEE Advanced 2024 Eligibility Criteria
To gain admission to IITs through JEE Advanced, candidates must meet various criteria such as qualifying the JEE exam, obtaining minimum marks in the 12th grade, and fulfilling other requirements. Failure to meet the JEE Advanced 2024 qualifying criteria will result in immediate disqualification. It’s important to note that only candidates who have cleared JEE Main 2024 will be considered eligible for JEE Advanced 2024. For further information regarding the JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2024,
Candidates can refer to additional details.
Criterion 1 – Qualifying Marks in JEE Main 2024
The primary eligibility criterion for the JEE Advanced 2024 exam pertains to the qualifying marks and rank achieved by a candidate in the JEE Main 2024 exam. Candidates must have successfully cleared JEE Main 2024 (Paper 1) and be among the top 2,50,000 candidates in the JEE Main exam. The distribution across categories is as follows:
- OPEN – 40.5%
- GEN-EWS – 10%
- OBC-NCL – 27%
- SC – 15%
- ST – 7.5%
- PwD – 5% horizontal reservation
Criterion 2 – No. of Attempts Allowed
Candidates are permitted to take the JEE Advanced exam a maximum of two times within a span of two consecutive years. Additionally, IIT Madras has stated that candidates who applied for JEE Advanced 2023 but did not participate in the exam will have the opportunity to take the JEE Advanced 2024 exam. However, no candidate will be allowed to attempt the JEE Advanced 2024 exam more than twice within two consecutive years.
Criterion 3 – Age Limit
Candidates born on or after 1st October 1999 are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2024. However, candidates belonging to the PwD, ST, or SC categories are granted a relaxation of 5 years in the age limit criteria. Therefore, candidates from these categories born on or after 1st October 1994 are eligible for JEE Advanced 2024.
However, based on recent information, it has been suggested that age will no longer be a decisive factor for eligibility to take the JEE Advanced exam in the near future. (Note: This information is not yet official.)
Criterion 4 – Previous Admissions at IITs
Candidates who have already secured admission to an IIT or ISM will not be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2024. Similarly, candidates who were initially selected or admitted to an IIT but were subsequently rejected or expelled (irrespective of the reason) are also disqualified from taking this exam. However, candidates who were first-time participants in a preparation program at any of the IITs in 2023 are eligible to take the JEE (Advanced) exam in 2024.
If a candidate secured a seat in any IIT through JoSAA 2023 but fell into one of the following categories:
(a) unable to report at the official reporting center or online,
(b) canceled before the final round of seat allocation, or
(c) withdrew before the final round of seat allocation, and then they are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2024 exam.
However, in each of the situations mentioned above, the applicant must also fulfill the prerequisites outlined in Criteria 1 through Criteria 5.
Criterion 5 – Successfully completing the Class 12 examination or its equivalent
Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination in either 2023 or 2024 for the first time. Additionally, if the results for the academic year 2021-22 are announced on or after 15th October 2022, candidates who took the 12th-grade exam in 2022 will also be considered eligible for JEE Advanced 2024, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
However, candidates will not be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2024 if the 12th-grade examination board releases the 2020-21 results before 15th October 2021, except in cases where the result of a particular candidate is withheld.
As a special one-time measure in response to COVID-19, candidates who registered for JEE (Advanced) 2023 and attempted the class 12th (or equivalent) exam for the first time in either 2022 or 2023 but did not participate in BOTH papers, i.e., Paper 1 and Paper 2, are eligible to directly apply for JEE (Advanced) 2024.
